The objective of this project was to revitalize an existing product by introducing a diverse range of color options and translating it into a brochure for exhibition purposes. The brochure aimed to articulate the reasoning behind the chosen color combinations, using carefully selected typography to enhance cohesion and convey a deeper meaning and power to the product. The focal point of this project was the iconic Nike Air Force 1.
The color palette employed in this endeavor draws inspiration from the vibrant hues of basketball courts, particularly those where the renowned Nike Air Force 1 gained popularity in the 90s. Notably, three distinct color schemes were crafted for different basketball positions, aligning with the areas frequented by each type of player.
The Air Force 1, designed by Bruce Kilgore, revolutionized basketball footwear with Nike Air technology. Featuring a stretched leather upper paired with suede, it has risen to become the best-selling shoe in today's market.
The success of the Air Force 1 can be traced back to its roots on the streets, where it captured the imagination of basketball enthusiasts in the corners and alleys of 1980s American cities. The color palette, influenced by Brooklyn street basketball courts, serves as a visual narrative, crucial for the sneaker's survival.
To enhance the street connection, the chosen typeface, "Iglesia Font," is aggressive and powerful, reminiscent of graffiti artists' and singers' signatures from the street basketball world. The sharp shapes of its letters evoke the street atmosphere of that era, interwoven with the emerging "Hip-hop" movement.
The AF1 has become a symbol embraced by street culture, with artists, musicians, and basketball enthusiasts all contributing to its legacy. They are all part of AF1.
